Description About the role We are seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Counsel to join our team based in Eagle Farm, Brisbane. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be the trusted legal advisor for the Harcourts Group, ensuring our assets and interests are protected while maintaining franchise compliance. Key responsibilities include: Leading and mentoring our Legal Administrator Managing all aspects of franchise compliance and documentation across Australia, including drafting agreements, reviewing franchise applications, resolving disputes and ensuring compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct. Providing expert commercial legal support, including risk management, negotiation, and litigation. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices, while keeping the leadership team and Board informed of critical updates. Drafting and reviewing contracts, leases, and other legal documents. Establishing and maintaining corporate governance frameworks, acting as Privacy Officer, and managing company secretarial duties. Supporting New Zealand in house legal team as required. Liaising with external counsel to manage contentious matters , including overseeing legal costs and ensuring effective collaboration . Contributing to the strategic direction of the legal team and participating in key company events. Skills And Experiences About you To excel in this role, you will be a qualified lawyer with proven experience in franchising law, commercial contracts, and corporate governance. You will bring a proactive approach, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities with ease. Previous in-house experience would be advantageous. We’re looking for someone who: Is confident and experienced in franchising compliance and legal documentation. Has strong knowledge of laws applicable to real estate and property management in Australia and New Zealand. Excels in building professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Is willing to take responsibility for legal services and identify process improvements for operational excellence Communicates complex legal concepts in a clear and practical way. Demonstrates exceptional time management, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities. Thrives both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
