As an OTT Broadcast Engineer within the Broadcast Engineering team, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the technical architecture of Optus Sport’s broadcast and live streaming systems. This includes managing video acquisition, live studio production, encoding, OTT and satellite delivery, playout, and post-production workflows, ensuring high-quality live transmission across platforms. Additionally, you will coordinate offline studio recordings and internal broadcasts such as ‘TGIF’. You will contribute to key strategic projects, improving Optus Sport’s resilience and growth by optimizing video architecture and supporting daily operations. Your day in the life of a OTT Broadcast Engineer at Optus Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient broadcast architectures, ensuring seamless end-to-end video delivery and adherence to project deadlines. Work closely with Broadcast Operations, Video Delivery, and Content Production teams to integrate and optimise broadcast systems, ensuring effective system alignment. Stay updated on new technologies, industry standards, and best practices, identifying and implementing innovative solutions to improve efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness. Provide expert technical guidance to Operational teams, encouraging continuous learning and professional development. Identify and resolve complex technical issues to maintain 99.97% uptime, ensuring efficient system performance and minimal service disruptions. Develop and maintain system diagrams, technical specifications, and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with legal, security, and industry standards while facilitating knowledge sharing. Take initiative in assessing, refining, and implementing process improvements, making data-driven decisions to improve operational efficiency. Your skills to pay the bills 5 years in linear video broadcast, OTT delivery, and distribution, with expertise in E2E video solution design, including video acquisition, encoding, delivery, and DRM. Experience in Telco, OTT video operators, or vendor environments managing technical teams and complex projects. Proven track record in implementing and maintaining broadcast architecture, managing systems, and facilitating complex discussions to drive optimal outcomes. Comfortable working in high-pressure environments and making critical decisions under time constraints. Strong problem-solving and communication skills, ensuring timely and effective execution of complex technical installations with minimal direction. Generates novel solutions, leverages diverse perspectives, and applies existing knowledge in new ways to enhance processes and system performance. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships, while offering and responding to constructive feedback, and remains reliable and responsive to team and business needs. Flexible approach to change and learning, quickly acquires new skills, takes initiative in improving processes, and proactively finds solutions. Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage resources effectively. Excellent negotiation skills and ability to connect with external vendors.
