We’d love to hear how your strengths in either area could make a difference People First Bank is looking for two highly skilled legal professionals to join our team on a 12-month contract. This role offers an ideal blend of independent work and collaboration within a supportive, in-house legal team and a unique opportunity to provide valuable legal support within a fast-paced, collaborative, and growth-oriented environment. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will be supporting and advising the business on a wide range of matters. If you have strengths in commercial contract negotiations, this will include working closely with the business to negotiate and advise on a broad range of commercial contracts, including technology, outsourcing, licensing, SaaS and professional services contracts and other commercial arrangements. If you have strengths in banking or finance, you’ll play a crucial role in providing legal advice, services and support in respect of our business while working closely with key business stakeholders to ensure compliance with Australian laws and regulations. You will report to the Head of Legal and be responsible for providing pragmatic, solution-focused legal advice across a wide range of matters. Your responsibilities will include, for example: Collaborating with business stakeholders, including external legal providers, to support business initiatives and risk management activities Contributing to internal projects and working groups focused on in-business change, regulatory requirements, and compliance Providing legal advice on strategic development, product development, and operational matters Reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts and / or advising on relevant legislation and its application to People First Bank’s operations, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk Advising and supporting the business with respect to legal disputes and litigation, information requests and inquiries Supporting regulator engagement activity and ensuring all legal aspects are managed efficiently Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with internal stakeholders, industry representatives, suppliers and regulators Contributing to relevant Project, Committee and Board papers and contributing to reporting as needed Monitoring emerging legal and compliance risks and proactively addressing potential challenges We are currently seeking Lawyers for our team with strong experience in either retail banking or commercial contracts. About you To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience as a legal professional in either private practice or in-house roles, ideally within the banking and finance industry. You will be comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, managing multiple priorities and delivering commercially practical legal solutions. Your work history should demonstrate: Strong experience in banking and finance and/or commercial contract negotiations, gained at a senior level either in law firms or in-house roles A proactive approach to identifying and analysing legal risks and providing strategic, commercially-focused solutions Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse teams An ability to work autonomously, while prioritising competing demands and managing stakeholders expectations Tertiary qualifications in Law A current practicing certificate in an Australian jurisdiction Who are we?
