As a member of the Corporate Leadership team, the CLO will report to the Deputy Director General & will be responsible for strategically leading & coordinating the activities & performance of specialised teams. This position requires a candidate who possesses exceptional strategic leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of the legal landscape. In this role you will: provide strategic, independent legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team on high- risk, complex & sensitive matters; lead the Legal, Information Access & Prosecutions branch to develop & maintain high-level expertise in key areas including: statutory interpretation; intellectual property; commercial; contract; workplace; constitutional & administrative law; & litigation that fosters a culture aligned with the Public Service Values to promote professional growth & effective performance management; implement modern digital processes, practices, & data analytics to enhance operational efficiency & the performance of the branch; develop & implement frameworks & guidelines for effective management of legal & legislative services & proactive strategies for early intervention in complex, sensitive & litigious matters; provide authoritative, strategic, & independent advice on the development, review & implementation of legislative reforms to ensure alignment with government policies & legal framework; oversee the strategic procurement of external legal services, maintaining strong relationships with providers to ensure quality & value; Skills/Experience: To be considered for this role you will have: 10 years' post-admission experience (PAE) including demonstrated oversight & leadership of a legal function in a General Counsel, CLO, Head of Legal or equivalent role; experience advising government clients or working within a government setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of public sector operations & the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous & political environments. strong, demonstrable values-based leadership skills to manage & develop a large, diverse workforce, building high-performing functions that deliver customer- centric services & quality outcomes. superior technical legal knowledge & commercial acumen & the ability to provide high-level strategic & operational advice on a wide range of complex legal & legislative issues. exceptional communication & engagement skills to establish & maintain collaborative & effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. possess outstanding analytical & conceptual abilities to identify & address complex issues, as well as to develop comprehensive plans & implement & evaluate improvement strategies for the branch, focusing on creating efficiencies & enhancing the effectiveness of systems, processes, & procedures. displays sound judgement, values integrity, is agile, adaptable & is outcome focused.
