Position Summary The Product Engineering Lead will drive the end-to-end development and operation of multiple technology applications within a specific domain leading teams of 50-150 engineering professionals organized as cross functional Agile PODs. This leader will embody the principles of a modern product engineering organisation focusing on continuous delivery business engagement and end-to-end product technology ownership. Responsibilities Product-Centric Leadership: Champion a product-first mindset where teams are empowered to build run and continuously improve applications that meet customer and business needs. This means that teams are not just delivering a project but are fully responsible for the success and evolution of the product. They continuously seek to understand business needs work with the product manager and adapt the product accordingly treating it as a living entity that grows and improves over time. What It Is Not: This is not traditional project management where success is measured by delivering a set of requirements within a timeline. Instead it’s about creating lasting value and maintaining ownership of the product throughout its lifecycle. Engineering Guidance and Direction: Lead multiple cross functional Agile POD engineering teams providing technical guidance coaching and support to ensure best practices in software engineering scalability and reliability. This involves setting high standards for engineering quality coaching teams on modern practices and supporting them in overcoming technical challenges. The focus is on creating an environment where engineers can thrive and deliver resilient scalable solutions. This is not simply managing engineering resources or allocating tasks. It requires a deep understanding of engineering principles and a commitment to empowering teams to solve complex problems and drive innovation. Drive End-to-End Ownership: Manage Agile PODs that own their respective product from development through production. Ensure engineering teams have clear accountability for build deployment and run responsibilities. This involves a commitment to owning the product lifecycle with engineering teams responsible for both building and maintaining the applications ensuring accountability for quality and reliability throughout. What It Is Not: This is not limited to just building a product and handing it off. It requires ongoing ownership and support where teams are responsible for the product’s performance in production. High-Performing Team Creation: Foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement with teams striving for elite performance metrics in line with DORA (DevOps Research and Assessment) standards. This is about creating a culture where teams pursue excellence measuring their performance through meaningful metrics like deployment frequency and change failure rates. It’s about building motivated high-performing teams focused on constant improvement. What It Is Not: This is not about setting arbitrary productivity targets or managing to outdated metrics. It’s a strategic approach to performance improvement based on metrics that drive real value for the product and the business. Modern Practices: Promote a culture of Experience Led Modern Applications (Microservices APIs Cloud Native Headless) and Modern Engineering (Full Stack Engg DevSecOps Infra as Code SRE SDET). This means implementing and advocating for delivering features that reach customers faster with a high level of quality and stability with baked in ability to respond to failures in a timely manner What It Is Not: This is not just about building new features. Being able to continuously delivering new as well as updated features with nimbleness and agility is a mindset and practice that involves consistently refining and improving the process to maximise efficiency and quality. Strategic Prioritisation: Work closely with business leaders to prioritise features and improvements balancing immediate needs with long-term capability growth and strategic objectives. This means assessing and balancing priorities to ensure that short-term wins don’t sacrifice long-term goals supporting both current business needs and future growth.
