General Maintenance Knowledge Plumbing: Basic plumbing skills, including fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and maintaining drainage systems. Carpentry: Ability to repair furniture, doors, windows, and perform minor construction work. Painting and Decorating: Proficiency in surface preparation, painting, and finishing. 2. Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting Strong diagnostic skills to quickly identify the root cause of maintenance issues. Ability to apply practical solutions across a variety of maintenance problems. 3. HVAC Maintenance Basic understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. 4. Basic IT and Networking Understanding of building management systems (BMS) or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). 5. Safety and Compliance Knowledge of workplace health and safety standards across multiple trades. Ability to conduct risk assessments and ensure safe working practices in all maintenance tasks. 6. Time Management and Prioritization Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to ensure timely completion of maintenance requests. Efficient scheduling of preventative maintenance to reduce downtime. 7. Adaptability and Flexibility Willingness to take on various tasks beyond one’s core expertise. Adaptability to new tools, technologies, and methodologies in maintenance. 8. Communication and Teamwork Strong communication skills to collaborate with other team members, contractors, and stakeholders. Ability to document maintenance activities and provide clear updates on work progress. 9. Tool and Equipment Proficiency Familiarity with a wide range of tools and equipment used in general maintenance tasks. Skills in using both hand and power tools safely and effectively.
