The Australian Defence Force (ADF) Armoured Vehicles fleet is in a phase of significant upgrade and renewal. New vehicle protection concepts and architectures will be introduced for to improve the current capability as well as allow for future growth and technology insertion. The Vehicle Survivability Group (VSG) is responsible for research and evaluation associated with the physical protection and survivability of land vehicles against penetrating and explosive threats. The group is required to provide scientific and technical advice across the vehicle sub-systems and capabilities and conducts targeted studies and concept demonstrators that will inform and guide Army in improving both current issues as well as deliver an improved future capability. The role is to provide support underdirection of the Group Leader Vehicle Survivability, coordinate, investigate, conduct and report on technical and scientific aspects of relevance to the groups input to major Defence Vehicle programs; • Communicate aspects of the Vehicle Survivability work program to internal and external stakeholders; • In support of S&T researchers, conduct testing, coordinate, and drive development of scientific activities through concept demonstrators; • Conduct problem solving, investigation and trouble shooting at a hands-on technical level; • Participate in the delivery and wider coordination of tasks and trials; • Assist in the coordination and development of Technical Risk Assessments; • Track and report on the groups finances; and • Conduct contracting and purchasing activities. You will need • Excellent verbal communication skills in conveying technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders • Demonstrated ability to interact with a range of people and lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve a common objective; • Excellent coordination and leadership to complete technical activities and deliverables; • Demonstrated Technical Officer experience; • Experience in formulating and conducting testing to analyse technical areas under investigation; • Understanding of Risk Management principals and their application; • Technical report writing; • Experience in managing and reporting a budget and willingness to take on purchasing and administrative duties needed; and • Technical data acquisition skills to support trials.
