We are seeking an experienced Engineering Services Manager to lead the Building Engineering and Maintenance Services (BEMS) team for a busy hospital and medical services organisation located in beautiful Cairns Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, this critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operational management, and service delivery outcomes of the BEMS department. You will be the single point of accountability for ensuring that all maintenance, asset management, and operational systems are effective, compliant, and aligned with the organisations strategic direction. Key Responsibilities: Provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and day-to-day management of the BEMS department across a large service area with both urban and remote healthcare facilities. Develop and implement key plans including Annual Maintenance Plan, Water Quality Risk Management Plan, Business Continuity Plans, Strategic Maintenance Plan, and other operational strategies. Manage the operation and maintenance of HVAC, hydraulics, structural systems, energy facilities, and essential services in a highly regulated hospital environment. Deliver high-level technical advice to the Executive Team, influencing asset management, project management, risk management, and business continuity. Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team, including professional, trade, and administrative employees, across hospital and rural sites. Oversee the operating budget, including allocated project budgets, and manage all aspects of asset management and maintenance planning. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations including the Building Code of Australia, Workplace Health and Safety Act, and Australian Standards. Implement emergency response and continuity plans for critical infrastructure and services. Engage with significant First Nations communities, ensuring targeted services and culturally appropriate practices are embedded across operations. Key Qualifications and Experience: A trade or engineering qualification, with eligibility or membership in the Institute of Hospital Engineers, Australia (IHEA). Proven experience in asset management, project management, and maintenance in a healthcare environment. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a large team across a diverse geographic area. Excellent understanding of energy management, risk management, and business continuity. Previous experience in a highly unionized environment, with the ability to negotiate and lead industrial relations. Significant experience in managing maintenance and operational systems in a hospital or regulated environment is highly desirable. Why Join Us?
