Established in 1938, the school enjoys magnificent ocean views and natural surroundings including a creek, green hills and beachfront. The Sisters of Our Lady Help of Christians opened the school and later the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Sisters took charge, remaining on the island until 2011. St Michael's Catholic School exists to serve the community's Indigenous people, with the majority of students being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. About the role St Michael's Catholic School, Palm Island , is seeking an experienced and dedicated School Officer - Administration (Student Reception). This role is a Term Time, Permanent position completing 38 hours a week during school term, commencing 20 January 2025. The role of School Officer – Administration is responsible for providing high level administrative support demonstrating a high level of self-initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, autonomy and dependability. The School Officer – Administration will be required to liaise with visitors, parents, staff and students to the College. The incumbent will present a professional image and create a welcoming, warm and positive impression. As the initial point of contact for many key stakeholders, the School Officer - Administration will deliver high quality customer service. Key Accountabilities The School Officer – Administration (Student Services Reception) will represent the school in a professional, warm, friendly and efficient manner. Duties include: Support the delivery of operational tasks associated with reception and administration including: Oversee the student reception Provide support to parent reception Administering of medication to students. Mail management and distribution Responding to incoming telephone and email enquires Dealing professionally with and directing enquiries of parents, visitors and contractors Data entry to support registers and record management. Provide administration support that meets the day to day requirements of the school including: Co-ordinate dissemination of information to staff and students Production of documents – letters, registers, spreadsheets Assist in the production of internal and external documents Sort, prepare and file documents as required Assist with banking and receipting of items. Support the delivery of tasks associated with community participation and school functions: Assist with the organisation of school events Arrange catering for school events Assist in the production of event supplies and merchandise Monitor and update the school website. Assist with financial and banking duties as requested Assist the Leadership Team with College activities including, but not limited to assemblies, leadership meetings and interviews Support collegiate learning and development by embracing new ideas and sharing experience and learning. Any other tasks as reasonably requested by the Principal and Business Manager To join this vibrant school community, you'll need Experience Previous experience providing generalist administrative support Demonstrated capacity to organise and prioritise a range of tasks and set priorities to meet deadlines in a busy office environment Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver support Proven ability in providing accurate and informative assistance to staff, students and parents confidently. Skills Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace new ideas with enthusiasm Highly developed computer literacy skills with the ability to operate a variety of platforms including Google and Microsoft Office Organisational planning and coordination skills including the ability to demonstrate flexibility and manage demanding or competing deadlines. Mandatory Criteria Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government Qualification at certificate level or equivalent knowledge and experience relevant to the position Current Driver’s Licence Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner. Desirable Criteria Recent administration and/or reception experience in a school or other environment.
