Our client is seeking a Network Planning Engineer to join their team and play a vital role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of electricity transmission networks. As a Network Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for analysing, planning, and optimizing the transmission network to meet current and future energy demands. Key Responsibilities: Conduct network planning studies: Utilize advanced software tools and simulations to perform detailed analysis and modeling of the electricity transmission networks. Identify potential bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and system vulnerabilities to develop long-term network development plans. Forecast future energy demands: Analyse historical and projected data to forecast the growth in electricity consumption, considering factors such as population trends, economic forecasts, and government policies. Assess the adequacy of the transmission network infrastructure based on these forecasts. Identify network expansion requirements: Evaluate network planning studies and demand forecasts to identify potential transmission network expansion projects. Develop cost-effective solutions to enhance network capacity, reliability, and security. Collaborate with stakeholders: Engage with internal teams, industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and transmission network service providers. Gather data, share insights, and align network planning activities. Collaborate with other departments to integrate network development plans with market operations and system security requirements. Conduct economic and feasibility assessments: Assess the economic viability of proposed network expansion projects. Conduct cost-benefit analysis, evaluate return on investment, and assess potential revenue impacts. Consider technical feasibility, environmental considerations, and regulatory requirements associated with network developments. Support regulatory processes: Provide technical expertise and support during regulatory processes. Assist in the development of transmission access rules, network pricing methodologies, and regulatory submissions. Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. Stay updated with industry developments: Keep abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes in the energy sector. Evaluate the potential impact of these developments on network planning strategies. Propose innovative solutions to optimize the transmission network. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or a related field. A master's degree or specialization in network planning is preferred. Strong understanding of electricity transmission network operations, including network topology, load flow analysis, and security constraints. Proficiency in using network planning software tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, or similar. Experience in conducting network planning studies, including load forecasting, contingency analysis, and transmission expansion planning. Knowledge of energy market structures, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
