The Learning Enhancement Department works with students on a personalised level and encourages students to reach their personal best. This department and Learning Enhancement Teachers have a role within whole school initiatives to improve outcomes for all students but specifically those students with learning disabilities. Teachers at Saint Stephen’s College are expected to be experts of their academic disciplines and well-informed classroom practitioners as well as champions of children’s learning and development. The main focus is to continuously seek to maximise curriculum delivery to achieve authentic learning outcomes for students through quality teaching, training and coaching, with an emphasis on intentional instruction and blended learning. As well as curriculum-based activities, all teachers are expected to contribute to the efficient and effective operations of the College on a daily and annual basis by supporting and engaging, as required, in various activities. Playground duties, sports coaching/supervision, excursions, assemblies/presentations/celebrations, varied extracurricular activities, the application of the College’s Student Code of Conduct and feedback, inclusive collaboration and discussion with parents/carers, participation in the College’s program of spiritual and pastoral care events, departmental and staff meetings and professional development sessions, camps and other similar duties all form part of a teacher’s expected responsibilities. In accordance with the Saint Stephen’s College Enterprise Agreement these duties may be during scheduled timetable allocations while other activities may fall outside of the timetable. DUTIES This position is responsible for, but not limited to; • Identifying, assessing and supporting students experiencing difficulties in learning and planning for, implementing and monitoring programs to support students with a diverse range of learning needs. This includes assisting with special considerations for exams, taking responsibility for IEPs and being responsible for the referral process of students. • Collaborating with other teachers to build their capacity for managing diverse learning needs of students and working with classroom teachers, sometimes in team teaching situations, to coordinate withdrawals of students for assessments, to manage short term intensive instructions and to review assessment and reporting procedures. • With senior leaders, teachers, students, parents, external specialists and visiting/consulting specialists, participate in the collaborative development and evaluation of programs, procedures, policies, student outcomes and grant submissions. • Planning, preparing and delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and in keeping with the relevant syllabuses, curriculum policies and work programs for the position / department they work in. • Maintaining teaching competency and currency of knowledge of relevant curriculum programs. • Interacting with students in a variety of settings and actively contributing to the development of inclusive learning environments, while effectively implementing the College’s Student Code of Conduct. • Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and physical safety of students whilst at the College and enhancing their overall development towards effective citizenship and responsible adulthood through participation in a variety of curriculum-based and extra-curricular activities. • Assessing students for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes. • Maintaining student records and reporting on student performance and engagement as well as on matters that may require further investigation and file keeping by internal departments or external agencies. • Participating in the collaborative development and evaluation of curriculum and regularly monitoring the effectiveness of the learning/teaching program. • Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, parents/carers, whole families and community members. • Liaising with parents/carers and at times external agencies and community members to support students achieve the expectations of the College and to uphold their own personal goals and positive contributions. • Engaging in professional, reflective learning opportunities such as coaching and team meetings. • Participating, as appropriate, in College decision making processes and professional development. • Participate and attend College functions, events and activities as defined by the annual calendar, and as required. Teamwork and Communication • Demonstrate a willingness to work positively within a team as well as having the ability to work independently. • Demonstrate and practice effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication. • Excellent personal organisation, planning and time management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines. • Genuine commitment to the ideals of independent schools, including the preparedness to attend extracurricular activities, as appropriate to the role. • Commitment to work within and support the Christian ethos, mission and values of the College. • Demonstrate passion, energy, enthusiasm and commitment towards the role and the College. • Ability to work harmoniously to achieve an organisation-wide vision, as set by the College leadership and Board. Knowledge and Skill Requirements • Bachelor of Education or a degree / qualification with a Postgraduate Teaching Qualification (all Teachers who work in the Learning Enhancement department are expected to have or undertake either Special Education or Learning Support qualifications due to the nature of the position). • Current Queensland College of Teachers Registration (or eligibility to apply) • Excellent knowledge of curriculum of the relevant discipline • A thorough understanding of the Australian Curriculum, with proven effectiveness benchmarked against the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers; • Appropriate ICT skills and a preparedness to integrate ICT skills into the learning process through Blended Learning; • Demonstrated experience, understanding and competence in blended learning with the ability to differentiate teaching programs to enhance student learning in the classroom and beyond; • Demonstrated ability to work with Online Learning Environments /Learning Management Systems to develop and deliver rich online course resources. • A proactive and professional approach that demonstrates initiative, flexibility and a high level of motivation, emotional intelligence and reflection.
