The Engineering Assistant is responsible for supporting mechanical and electrical technicians in both scheduled maintenance as well as with project work as required, they are also required to work autonomously on supporting activities for the Engineering department including preparing equipment for services and cleaning while maintaining the highest safety standards. The Engineering Assistant will also be required to assist with warehouse functions. Key Responsibilities: • Workshop Duties – including but not limited to assisting mechanical and electrical technicians in service and repair work, (eg. changing oils, lubrication of wire ropes, etc) using hand tools, power tools, welders etc. to perform work as required. • Assisting warehouse supervisor with deliveries, warehouse duties including stocktake, picking of parts, raising workorders for planned work and refurbished parts • Basic comprehension and understanding of equipment on site. • Engage in a positive safety culture, adhering to all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures in alignment with VICT values; • Accurately and promptly report any operational or health and safety concerns; • Ensure accurate and timely communication between all levels of employees; • Adhere to and maintain any direct instruction issued by the Engineering Supervisor and Warehouse Supervisor Qualifications / Experience: • Minimum completion of year 10 plus high literacy in English language written and oral. • High-risk licenses including - Forklift License (mandatory), Basic rigging / dogging (desirable) • Full unrestricted current Victorian driver’s license. (mandatory) Heavy ridged (desirable) • 2 years experience in a similar role • Experience in a mechanical workshop or repair environment (eg. forklift trucks, container handling equipment, mining equipment, marine equipment, generator sets, forklifts etc.) • Previous experience with safe systems of work (SWMS, JHA’s, JSA’s, Take 5’s etc.) Skill / Knowledge / Attributes • Able to work at heights. • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, electronics and/or diesel engines. • Sound communication skills (written and verbal) and numeracy skills. • Excellent work ethic. • Effective time management and punctuality. • Knowledge of mechanical handling, port or industrial equipment. • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and MS Outlook
