DIRECTORATE: Business, Growth & Community CLASSIFICATION: Grade A SALARY: $29.01 to $33.65 per hour 11.5% employer contribution to superannuation REPORTING TO: Retro Lane Cafe Manager EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Temporary Part Time - Up to September 2025 THE POSITION: To provide excellent customer service and food preparation to clients of Retro Lane Cafe and assist the Cafe Manager in the efficient operation of the cafe. Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist customers with sales/purchases in a friendly and courteous manner Provide a high level of hospitality expertise in food and beverage preparation, handling and presentation Undertake a range of basic short order cooking Operate POS registers for Cafe sales, including reconciliation, daily banking, eftpos and change bags Restock fridges Maintain absolute cleanliness inside and outside cafe – especially in food preparation and sales areas Assist with re-ordering of stock items and stocktaking when required As required provide set tasks for casual and trainee cafe staff Work closely with the AlburyCity Youth Programs team and young people to provide a welcoming environment to all customers Report back to supervisor regarding any maintenance issues and other relevant information Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training. Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS. Qualifications KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Internal Our People External Our Community Suppliers Youth Management Committee EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Based on 38 hours per week, working an average of 20 hours across a 6-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings. Youth Cafe operational hours are generally 10am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2.00pm Saturdays. The Cafe will be open to 9pm on Fridays up to twice a month. Additional hours up to 38 hours per week may be worked by agreement, and this will be paid at the ordinary rate of pay The position will be required to perform the tasks of “Duty Supervisor” at times as per the roster and this will attract additional payment. This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely. This position involves working both indoor and outdoor, along with computer work. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day – depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. Appropriate WHS standards will be applied for all manual handing activity. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position. This position requires evidence of a current Australian National Police Check. This position requires evidence of a current NSW Working with Children’s Check. This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing This position is located at the Retro Lane Cafe, with occasional visits to external sites/depots and Council Administration Building as required. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Food Handling Certificate DESIRABLE CRITERIA: Certificate level qualifications in Hospitality Customer Service Training Class C (standard) Driver's Licence EXPERIENCE: Experience in the hospitality industry Experience in a customer focused environment including cash handling Interest in working with young people SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to undertake basic short order cooking in a cafe environment Demonstrated ability to present food, beverages and products in an attractive manner Knowledge of cash handling and receipting Knowledge of cleaning practices Ability to reconcile and calculate daily banking Ability to order stock and liaise with suppliers An understanding of WH&S principles
