About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Process Engineer to join the team in Toowoomba. The perfect candidate is not a copy and paste operator, but rather someone who has the ability to innovate, think out the box, and work with a high degree of autonomy. You will be responsible for designing, optimizing, improving, and commissioning process and equipment, and offering after-sales support, ensuring efficient production and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Conduct process simulations and prepare heat and material balance calculations, from first principles. Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement process enhancements. Research & Development: Research and develop the companies technologies. Analyse existing processes and identify areas for improvement. Design and plan the layout of equipment for biomass and biosolids processing. Conduct trials of various feedstocks, and document results. Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Conduct safety audits and inspections. Implement and maintain quality control procedures. Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support to the project and production teams. Collaborate with other engineers, local authorities, and clients to ensure quality and efficiency. Develop cost estimates for process implementation and production. Provide operational support to the company's biochar production facility. Documentation & Reporting: Document all created and modified processes. Prepare reports, flow diagrams, and charts to demonstrate process methods. Prepare and submit reports to clients, regulators, and, stakeholders. Produce PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, equipment lists, and process descriptions Safety Compliance: Regulatory Compliance Process Safety Management Safety Audits and Inspections Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment Design and Calculations: Mass and Energy Balance Calculations Process Selection Environmental and Safety Considerations About You: To be successful in the role, you will have at least 5 to 8 years of experience in a relevant field and: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. RPEQ or progress towards / PE status Proven experience in process engineering, chemical engineering, and project management. Strong knowledge of chemical design principles and practices. Experience in any of the following fields would be valuable: Biomass combustion / Biomass boilers Thermal treatment processes Sugar or Sawmill process experience Problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. (written and verbal) Proficiency with engineering first principals and calculations. Proficiency with engineering software and tools such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, AutoCAD, EXCELL/VBA, COMSOL Multiphysics, Python. Be prepared to travel locally and abroad to commission equipment.
