About the Role Our Social Justice Practice takes on high profile and meaningful cases that deal with complex issues we are passionate about and we seek to ensure that our legal work has an impact beyond the case. Every year we dedicate hundreds of hours working on pro bono legal issues, getting involved in community events and getting outcomes for clients with issues that we might not have come across before. This is interesting and meaningful work where you can have a huge impact. We now have an opportunity to join our Melbourne Social Justice team as a Legal Assistant on a full-time, 12 month fixed term contract. As part of the role, you will provide legal administration support to our Lawyers giving you lots of variety. You will use your initiative and out of the box thinking to seek answers, provide exceptional client experiences and work with the team to find solutions to unique problems. The work the Social Justice Practice undertakes is varied and you will be working in different areas and jurisdictions for each file or project. Key Responsibilities Documentation management, including filing, proof reading and collating data for reports and further action Building strong relationships with clients and external stakeholders, providing assistance with enquiries and proactively seeking information where appropriate Preparing basic correspondence, preparation of briefs and opening/closing of files Assisting preparation for court hearings, including the preparation of briefs, court books, hearing kits, subpoenas, payment of jury fees, doctors’ availabilities where required Billing and processing invoices Administration of project work, travel bookings and organising meetings Assisting with any other administration tasks or projects that might come your way The experience we are looking for You work as part of a team, collaborating to get the right outcomes for our clients with a strong client service focus. You are a natural problem solver with a high attention to detail and will take the initiative to proactive seek solutions/advice from the team where needed to gain a greater understanding of matters.
