The key duties of the position include The Role The APS 6 Portuguese Language Teacher will lead the Portuguese team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. The APS 6 Portuguese Language Teacher will work productively as part of a specialised language team consisting of Australian Public Servants and contractors to: Develop Portuguese language assessment materials. Monitor the academic progress of students and provide timely and actionable individual feedback. Review and implement continual improvement to course materials and assessments. Provide timely and accurate advice and guidance to the Head of Wing. Lead the preparation and conduct of In-Country Training programs for students including travel to Lisbon, Portugal for student assessment. Lead the preparation and conduct of domestic cultural engagement activities for students. Identify and research teaching methodology improvements utilising new technologies. Other duties in line with the APS 6 Standard as directed. About our Team The Portuguese Language Department is responsible for the syllabus design, material development and delivery of the Portuguese language courses to ADF personnel. The Portuguese Language Department have a mindset of continuous improvement utilising new technologies to improve the language delivery experience for students. The Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) delivers language and cultural training to select Australian Defence Force personnel. There are currently approximately 100 ADF, APS and contracted staff and over 150 military students at any one time. As a school of foreign languages, DFSL is extremely culturally diverse. Our Ideal Candidate Have a demonstrated high level of knowledge of the European Portuguese language. Have demonstrated leadership as a teacher. Have a demonstrated sound knowledge of different approaches to language teaching and embracing new technologies. Have Portuguese teaching experience (preferably in an adult learning environment). Have demonstrated experience in syllabus design and material development. Have demonstrated applied knowledge of different approaches to language teaching.
