Description Civil Engineer Reference number: 10494 Closing date: 11:00pm, 29 November 2024 Casual temporary position until 3 January 2025 Salary commencing at $48.07 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience Band 6 The Opportunity Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a dedicated and skilled Civil Engineer to join our Engineering Services team. This position plays a key role in providing professional engineering advice, information, and support related to stormwater drainage management, flooding issues, land subdivisions, and development projects. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of engineering initiatives, collaborating with developers, consultants, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure effective solutions to drainage and infrastructure challenges. The role is integral to managing Council’s engineering functions, enhancing both community safety and sustainability in relation to drainage and urban development. Responsibilities Provide expert technical advice on drainage issues and assess applications related to legal points of discharge and easements. Review and assess drainage plans, including pump systems and on-site detention systems, to ensure compliance with established standards, guidelines and timelines. Prepare concept designs, technical specifications, and cost estimates for capital works projects. Conduct site inspections and investigations Prepare relevant reports, correspondence, preliminary plans Liaise with internal teams, developers, and government agencies to manage and resolve engineering-related enquiries. Review engineering, subdivision and land development plans to ensure compliance with guidelines, legislation, and Council standards. Provide input on the development and improvement of engineering policies, procedures, and practices. Investigate, assess and report on the capacity and demands of existing and new Council owned infrastructure assets Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field, with strong technical knowledge in drainage, stormwater management, and land development. You should have experience in reviewing and assessing civil engineering plans, particularly in drainage and subdivision works, and be familiar with legislation such as the Victorian Road Rules, Water Act, and Subdivision Act. Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office software is essential, and familiarity with water-sensitive urban design principles will be highly regarded. You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, external stakeholders, and the community, and have experience in community consultation on civil engineering matters. A valid Victorian driver's license is required for the role.
