The Chief Legal Counsel is a key member of the dynamic corporate leadership team, committed to challenging and improving strategy, frameworks and practice to drive enhanced performance and service delivery of legal services across Queensland Health. A trusted and highly credible advisor, you will deliver effective, authoritative and high level legal and policy advice for and on behalf of Queensland Health and the Minister on a range of portfolio legislation and health and commercial law matters. You will provide contemporary, agile, strategic leadership to the team, managing and building the resources, capability and operations of the Legal Branch to ensure effective future succession and operations. You will provide a strong strategic and proactive focus on risk and corporate governance, as well as management and resolution of complex issues with respect to Government and Administrative processes. A dedicated professional, you will ensure all lawyers comply with ethical, professional and statutory obligations, including maintenance of professional development and competency requirements. The successful personYou will have: An outstanding track record as a strategic and future focussed leader, committed to managing and developing a large and diverse business unit and its resources to produce expert advice, quality outcomes, succession planning and collaborative service delivery Superior technical legal knowledge and ability to provide high level strategic, operational, policy and legal advice, admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of Queensland or eligible for such admission Exceptional and influential communication skills with an ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders Ability to think innovatively and creatively, challenging and improving upon existing policies, procedures and approaches to achieve greater outcomes and efficiencies Exceptional analytical and conceptual abilities, used to address complex issues, and establish comprehensive plans, implementation and improvement strategies for the Branch A pragmatic approach with a reputation as a highly credible and trusted advisor About usThe Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland.
