Position Information Why work with us? Port Macquarie PS is located on Birpai Country on the Mid North Coast of NSW. PMPS student population consists of approximately 403 students, including 106 students who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, 53 students in supported learning, and 21 students in the Opportunity Class. The current Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) strategic directions are Literacy and Numeracy and Wellbeing. About the role. The Itinerant Support Teacher Hearing (ISTH) is based at Port Macquarie PS. The successful applicant will be part of the Itinerant Hearing Team which covers the Hastings, Macleay and Nambucca Valleys on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The ISTH will develop and support the implementation of individualised programs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing from early intervention through to year 12. Collaboration with students, teachers and parents/carers is integral to the role. The ISTH will liaise with and support mainstream teachers to develop inclusive education practices and enhance student learning outcomes. Ability and willingness to travel between worksites is a requirement of this position. Selection Criteria Approval to teach students with Hearing Impairment Primary and Secondary. Auslan skills desirable Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate quality, inclusive learning plans to meet the complex needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing from early intervention to year 12 across different educational settings. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships, engage students and work collaboratively with staff, families and stakeholders. Capacity to implement teaching practices that recognise the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. Demonstrated understanding of disability legislation and technology used by students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
