Position Information Carenne School is a K-12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP) with an enrolment of 100 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional disturbance and other additional learning needs across 17 classes. Aboriginal students make up 20% of this number. The school has a very strong sense of community and is well supported by active parents and community members. The school includes the Macquarie Campus which provides specialist targeted behaviour support to primary students from local schools with three support class for students with Emotional Disturbance. This position is based at the Macquarie Campus. Our highly professional, cohesive staff is committed to professional learning, collaborative planning and team work. The current school plan and annual school report can be viewed on the school's website www.carenne-s.schools.nsw.edu.au/ Selection Criteria Approval to teach special education/and or experience teaching students in a multistage K-6 setting with additional learning needs including mental health disorders, emotional disturbances, behavioural difficulties, autism, intellectual difficulties and other complex learning and support needs with a trauma-informed approach to teaching. Demonstrated knowledge in differentiating the curriculum to maximise individual student learning, engagement and wellbeing. Proven ability to create positive learning environments through the implementation of effective classroom behaviour management and student wellbeing programs. Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed practice, and the implications for school in meeting the educational and welfare needs of a range of students including those from low socio-economic communities and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families with an emphasis on building relationships with the local community. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
