The Moreton Bay Colleges' is seeking a Brass Teacher to deliver high quality instrumental music lessons across the colleges. THE POSITION These Brass Teacher positions are an integral part of the College's music program, assisting to develop their area within the Department as specialist teachers. The Brass Teaching positions work across both the Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys’ College campuses and may need to travel between schools as required. The Brass Teacher’s primary responsibility is to deliver high quality instrumental music lessons, both individually on the instrument of their specialisation, as well as in small mixed brass groups within the Colleges’ Immersion Program. Other duties (e.g. ensemble conducting) will be negotiated on appointment according to the skills and abilities of the successful applicant. The role includes supporting co-curricular music programs and performances such as outside-of-hours Ensemble Concerts (2-3 major events each term, including the annual Term 1 Music Camp). The Brass Teacher is responsible to the Director of Music – The Moreton Bay Colleges’ and ultimately the Principal. All staff are employed by the CEO and Executive Principal of MBC and MBBC. All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this day school for girls from K-12. Please note that this fractional appointment may vary subject to student numbers, the skills and abilities of the successful applicant, and the operational needs of the College. The 0.8 FTE Contract Position and 0.2 FTE Casual Position may also be combined during Term 1 into a single full-time role for a suitable candidate. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Brass Teacher is required to: delivery high quality instrumental lessons model best practice as a performing musician to The MBCs’ students develop individualized programs of instruction for private students that are informed by best practice and contemporary developments in pedagogy set clear goals and work towards achieving those cater for individual interests and learning styles establish solid technical foundations for development foster in students the desire to be the best that they can be cultivate outstanding young musicians direct ensembles if required arrange sectional rehearsals if required comply with College reporting requirements attend and assist with performances and other College events as required, including the annual music camp attend and actively contribute to weekly performance staff meetings attend at annual camp undertake all administration pertaining to personal teaching and performances maintain accurate rolls for students and ensembles Actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Ideally, the Brass Teacher should: hold tertiary qualifications in Music demonstrate considerable experience as a brass educator in a range of educational contexts be a practicing musician, ideally in professional performance contexts CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers would be desirable WORK ENVIRONMENT The Brass Teacher is accommodated in a well-resourced studio within the Music Centre SELECTION CRITERIA SC1 Tertiary qualifications appropriate to teaching within a high performing music department. SC2 Proven record of achievement as an outstanding instrumental teacher. SC3 Demonstrated ability as a performing musician (instrumentalist, vocalist or conductor). Candidates may be asked to audition. SC4 Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents. SC5 Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a high performing team. CONDITIONS AND SALARY Term 1 2025 - 0.8 FTE & 0.2 FTE roles which may be combined for suitable applicant Term 2 - Term 4 2025 - 0.2 FTE Salary and conditions are in keeping with the current Moreton Bay College Enterprise Agreement. Sick Leave entitlement pro rata of 10 days annually. Long Service Leave entitlement pro rata of 1.3 weeks for each year of service, which can be taken after 7 years. The College contributes superannuation on behalf of the employee as per the current Moreton Bay Enterprise Agreement.
