What to Expect As a key technical member of the cross-functional Applications Engineering team within the Energy Projects group, you will be critical to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy by helping integrate renewable generation and battery storage into utility power systems. You will design and implement the controls necessary for large battery storage projects (10 MWh - 2 GWh), both islanded and connected to the bulk electrical power system. This role is open to applicants in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. What You’ll Do Develop and deploy monitoring and control scheme for complex utility-scale battery projects Manage design, integration, deployment, and commissioning process for entire SCADA scope, both on-site and remotely Facilitate implementation of cybersecurity measures required for critical infrastructure telemetry Understand, define, and disseminate functional requirements and feedback from the market, coordinating with internal business and engineering team members Support new Tesla Energy software features by writing specifications and test plans, assisting development and test efforts, managing deployment and documenting new capabilities. Act as the technical point of contact both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applications. Work with external counterparties to identify best technical fit of Tesla’s offering. Review Request for Proposal and estimate engineering hours required to execute on scope of work Develop technical or process documentation required to support project evaluation and deployments Troubleshoot issues and implement fixes on operational sites. What You’ll Bring BS/MS in relevant Engineering discipline with five years’ work experience; OR equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability. Hands-on experience in implementing communication networks for critical infrastructure including multi-layer network architecture. Networking related certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc) are a plus. Experience with implementing industry standard cyber security requirements: DMZ, jump/ proxy servers, firewall rules, etc. Demonstrated application of analysis, design and testing to solve complex engineering problems Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals – mechanical, electrical, and thermal – is expected Strong understanding of key considerations around paralleling multiple AC sources: synchronization, voltage vs current sources, load sharing, Var control, droop control, frequency management, protection coordination, etc. Familiarity with relevant communication protocols and computer interfaces: UNIX, JSON, MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870 protection relay configuration, etc. Familiarity with relevant programming platforms and languages: SEL RTAC, Aveva Historian, Golang, Python, etc. Experience with implementing various redundant networking/control system architectures to eliminate single points of failure. Familiarity with grid interconnection SCADA telemetry requirements across various markets including AEMO and TNSP (Transgrid, Ausnet, Electranet, Powerlink, etc) Besides a rock-solid work ethic and a strong team-oriented personality, members of our team display creativity, passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting technology landscape.
