In the role of Principal Engineer - Hydrology and Hydraulics , we'll count on you in the following areas: General Give your full commitment to HDR’s Values Compliance with the current policies and procedures including quality, environment, risk and safety within the business management system Ability to work as part of a team, including resources from other countries. Technical Provide flooding design input into civil engineering projects undertaken by HDR including working within multidisciplinary teams to arrive at best-for-project solutions Mentor and provide technical direction to other relevant professionals Undertake validation and verification of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling Lead the development of flood modelling and technical reporting; including developing practical solutions to flood-related issues Apply engineering techniques to develop innovative and robust solutions to difficult to complex hydraulic constraints Carry out flood risk analysis and floodplain management Carry out bridge-related flood assessments, including scour analysis and potentially form loss 3D modelling Demonstrate a keen interest in understanding and communicating the nature of flooding, interactions with the built environment, and development of project-specific solutions within the context of wider floodplain risk management Keep abreast of engineering practices, Australian standards, sustainability and flood resiliency best practice and liaising with Statutory authorities as required. Project Delivery Prepare hydrology and hydraulics project documentation suitable for approval by authorities Provide relevant input into other discipline’s project design documentation Support project delivery in conjunction with Project Managers; including direct liaison with clients and stakeholders Assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tender responses Perform other duties as needed About You 12 years’ relevant experience Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Bachelor or Masters of Engineering in civil/environmental/other relevant discipline) Accreditation as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland and/or Chartered Engineer (or reciprocal accreditation) Extensive experience in flood modelling and delivering flood studies Knowledge of Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Road Planning and Design Manual Volume 3: Parts 5, 5A & 5B, and Queensland Urban Drainage Manual. (Knowledge of Victorian Department of Transport and Planning design guidelines desirable) Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and processes Both one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modelling skills including experience using industry-standard hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software packages (TUFLOW essential; WBNM, XP-RAFTS, URBS, MIKE FLOOD, HEC-RAS desirable) Experience using geographic information system (GIS) (e.g. MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS) Highly motivated and well organised, with the ability to lead and organise the work of team members Willingness to be accountable and responsible Strong verbal and written communication skills Desirable Criteria Exposure to broader water resources projects, in particular relating to water quality assessment and modelling Proficiency in MikeFLOOD, Mike3D, TUFLOW FV, Delft3D, SMS, RORB, WBNM, FastTABS, DAMBREAK, GoldSIM, Flow3D (or other CFD packages) would be an advantage Experience in detailed hydraulic designs of stormwater and drainage infrastructure with the ability to provide technical review of drainage designs Knowledge of drainage design software (12d Model, HY-8, TMR Culvert, Culvert Master, MUSIC, DRAINS, Civil 3D)) Experience in computer-aided design (CAD) software Proficiency in industry-standard file management packages, such as ProjectWise, 12d Synergy, TeamBinder, Ansarada Active in national hydrological and/or engineering communities.
