The School is proudly WA’s only university to have been awarded a Federal Government grant to commence the High Achieving Teachers (HAT) Program, aimed towards attracting quality people into the teaching profession. Working in close partnerships with dedicated ‘Hub Schools’ there will be a focus on attracting new teachers, including with a STEM background, First Nations peoples, people with a disability, teacher aides and people based in remote locations. The HATECU Program ECU School of Education is one of 10 Universities across Australia to win pilot funding from the Australian Government to offer employment-based pathways into teaching to help address national teacher workforce shortages. Based on ECU’s existing accredited Master of Teaching courses (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary), HATECU will deliver an innovative Employment-Based Pathway for aspirational postgraduate early years, primary and secondary teachers. The HATECU Program commences 2025 and will be delivered through two cross-sectoral partnership hubs: one regional and one metropolitan. Each hub will comprise a minimum of five government schools (2 secondary, 2 primary, 1 Early Learning Centre / Special Education Centre) and CEWA and/or AISWA Eligible Placement Schools with ICSEA below 1000. Program participants will be hosted at Hub schools for professional experience and employment. Hub schools will continue to support the employment of participants one year after graduation. HATECU Hub Co-ordinators Working in close partnership with the hub schools, the Program Director and Associate Director, Hub Co-ordinators will co-ordinate day to day operations of the program within the hubs, located from either Perth’s regional South West or metropolitan Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses. Hub Co-ordinators need to be passionate and experienced practicising senior teachers and/ or academic educators with a proven track record of building and maintaining positive industry relations in order to: Coordinate Hub activities to ensure student and program success. Liaise with Hub Schools to deliver program requirements and foster positive relationships. Provide support for students in Hub schools (mentoring, observation). Provide pastoral care for Program participants (liaising with Student Support Officer, SSO). Liaise with Professional Experience staff facilitating timely placements. Lead community building in the Hub to support retention. Requirements Master’s degree (Research); or Bachelor Honours Degree (First or Upper Second class); and/or enrolled in a PhD. Leadership through formal school-based roles, or engagement with the profession locally or nationally. High level of connectivity between the education of pre-service teachers, your own teaching experiences, engagement with schooling/early childhood and industry sectors, and demonstrated research capability. Expertise gained from a min 5-year practical experience, and a strong pedagogical approach to education in the relevant discipline. Proven track record of teaching excellence within the relevant industry and discipline. Sound knowledge of the unit content and material, and use of current disciplinary research in teaching activities. Delivery of research or inquiry-led curricula. Evidence of contemporary technology enhanced learning activities. The successful applicant will also be required to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, a National Police Check and preferably be eligible for Teacher Registration in Western Australia.
