Matrix Education is hiring an AI Engineer to join our team. As an AI Engineer, in consultation with our senior educators, you will develop and deploy innovative AI solutions, to improve student experiences, streamline business processes and enhance decision-making, across the organisation. The AI Engineer will play a pivotal role in advancing the company’s strategic goals through the innovative application of AI and automation technologies. This position is a full time role based at our Sydney CBD head office. What you’ll do: Collaborate with senior educators to solve unique education-business problems, Work with one or more cloud-based AI services and their frameworks and tools (e.g. Google Vertex AI, Amazon Bedrock/Sagemaker, Azure AI) to build and manage pipelines and workflows, including for Retrieval-Augmented Generation, Develop and produce internal and customer-facing AI agents and applications, including chatbots, Create and maintain any necessary code infrastructure, Document the development process, including all architecture, deployment procedures, testing and tools, Define and maintain best practices in non-biased, safe, ethical, secure and scalable AI, Communicate technical concepts and structures to non-technical stakeholders. What you’ll need: Computer science degree or similar, preferably with strengths in data science, machine learning or AI, 3 years of commercial software developer experience, Demonstrated experience creating products and taking them through to production, Demonstrated experience using one or more major cloud platforms and services (GCP, AWS, Azure), Demonstrated experience in one or more programming languages such as C, Java, Python or Rust, and in front-end HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript, Familiarity with ethical AI principles and responsible AI practices, Autonomous yet collaborative work style, Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanour, Quick grasp of complex concepts and emerging technologies, Adaptable communication tailored to individual or company needs. Good to have, but not essential: Building data and/or Machine Learning pipelines, Harnessing large language models, particularly through chatbots, Experience creating AI agents and tools, Cloud-native development, CI/CD, DevOps or MLOps, Knowledge of containerisation, microservices-oriented architecture and REST APIs.
