About the job We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Head of Legal – Commercial, you will play a key role in supporting MECCA’s growth. Your focus will be on consumer law, managing customer complaints, overseeing competitions and events, Supporting MECCA’s loyalty programs, managing MECCA’s intellectual property, and assisting with marketing clearances, as well as commercial contracting. In addition to these core responsibilities, you’ll offer broader legal support across the business to address various ad hoc legal needs. The Role You Could Play Some of your key responsibilities will include: Proactively monitoring and advising on MECCA’s consumer law obligations and assisting the business in complying with its obligations. Providing support in relation to customer queries and complaints and implementing process improvements. Providing support in relation to competitions, giveaways and events. Providing support in relation to MECCA’s loyalty program, including ensuring all terms and conditions and associated materials are up to date, transparent and accurate. Assisting with intellectual property and trademark matters, including infringements, applications, licences and oppositions. Proactively identifying issues in relation to MECCA’s marketing materials and assisting with clearance reviews. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and T&Cs, including services agreements, talent agreements, contractor agreements and NDAs. Assisting the business with ad hoc legal requests. Proactively identifying and implementing process improvements; and Providing education and training to the business. What You Will Bring To be successful in this role, you will: Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification to practise law in Australia. Current unrestricted Australian practising certificate. 2-3 years post-admission experience. Have an understanding of key consumer law issues and related areas of law and demonstrated experience dealing with relevant issues. Have demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements. Be proactive and capable of working autonomously. Demonstrate strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Be adaptable and able to respond quickly and effectively to changing business demands. Exhibit strong organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrate high attention to detail.
