About the role The Systems Commercial team is a key interface between the physical power system and electricity markets and is one of three teams that make up the Systems Capability group. The prime focus of the Engineer position is to ensure key electricity market parameters are accurately calculated (e.g., Marginal Loss Factors and Causer Pays) as well as contribute to broader business objects, including the implementation of key market reforms and initiatives. The role will also support the team in ensuring sufficient emergency reserves and restart services are available to meet operational requirements. What you will be doing Calculate and report regulation frequency control ancillary service contribution factors (causer pays factors) and Frequency Performance Payments (FPPs). Support the annual MLF publication, resolving issues and ensuring compliance with National Electricity Rules. Provide subject matter expertise, facilitate information exchange, and resolve queries with internal and external stakeholders on MLFs, causer pays factors and FPPs. Review network augmentation in PSS/E models for the annual MLF calculation. Lead Systems Commercial projects, including market consultations, process reviews, and system upgrades. Mentor junior engineers and support their development within the Systems Commercial team. Build and maintain relationships across AEMO and the energy industry to support strategic objectives. Contribute to cybersecurity initiatives by safeguarding AEMO’s IT systems and ensuring compliance with the Business Continuity Policy and Plans. What you will bring to the role An electrical engineering degree with power systems or other suitable technical focus 5-10 years' professional experience in the energy industry working within the NEM, or in another comparable power system. Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts, particularly regarding power system and transmission system operation. Experience using in power system analysis tools (PSS/E) (Preferred) A background with data analysis packages and languages such as Python, SQL, and Excel, R Studio etc (Mandatory) Knowledge on how the National Electricity Market operates and impact Marginal Loss Factors have on the NEM Understanding of interaction between generation, load and how network flows influence changes in MLFs (Preferred) Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical issues and recommendations to a broad audience in both written and verbal formats. Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and leverage constructive working relationship.
