About the role The Systems Commercial team is a key interface between the physical power system and electricity markets and is one of three teams that make up the Systems Capability group. The prime focus of the Engineer position is to ensure key electricity market parameters are accurately calculated (e.g., Marginal Loss Factors and Causer Pays) as well as contribute to broader business objects, including the implementation of key market reforms and initiatives. The role will also support the team in ensuring sufficient emergency reserves and restart services are available to meet operational requirements. What you will be doing Calculate Regulation Frequency Control Ancillary Service (FCAS) contribution factors (Causer Pays Factors) and generate comprehensive monthly reports. Assist the Systems Commercial team in the preparation and completion of the annual Marginal Loss Factor (MLF) reports, including data preparation and tool improvement for annual studies. Support the Systems Commercial team with operational tasks, project management, and coordination with AEMO business units and external participants, while preparing operational reports and documentation. Present and communicate Causer Pays and MLF outcomes to key stakeholders, facilitating discussions and decision-making. Develop, maintain, and enhance analysis and reporting tools to meet evolving business requirements and improve operational efficiency. Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the National Electricity Market’s power system. Contribute to the delivery of Systems Commercial team projects, including market consultations, process improvements, and system upgrades. What you will bring to the role An electrical engineering degree with power systems or other suitable technical focus Experience within the energy industry will be highly regarded. Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, with a focus on power system and transmission system operations. Excellent numerical and data analysis skills. Proficiency with power system analysis tools. Proficient in data analysis software and programming languages, including Python, SQL, Excel, and R Studio. Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts and recommendations to diverse audiences, both in writing and verbally. Demonstrated success in building, maintaining, and leveraging effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
