About the Opportunity Reporting to a relevant Head of Legal (Corporate Services, Multi-Class Sustainment, or SSN-AUKUS), you will support the broader ASC legal team to provide quality, practical and commercial legal advice and services on various legal matters and contracts in relation to all of ASC’s business activities, and assist the business effectively manage legal risk and ensure legal compliance. Responsibilities Provide legal advice and support to ASC’s various business units in relation to legal compliance and legal risk management, including on issues such as intellectual property, work health and safety, environment, quality, information systems, privacy, nuclear regulation, corporate governance, government business enterprise, export controls, employment (including industrial relations), and equal opportunity, amongst others. Demonstrated experience in one or more of these areas will be held in high regard. Draft, review and provide expert legal advice on a broad range of commercial contracts and dealings, including contracts relating to procurement, sponsorship, NDAs, joint ventures, property and disputes. Assist with the preparation of, and maintain and update precedents and templates, as well as policies and procedures. Take an active role in educating the business in relation to legal issues that are relevant to ASC, including delivering training on legal topics. Manage any disputes involving ASC and briefing external solicitors where required. Maintain an in-depth understanding of current legislative requirements, relevant legislative changes, legal best practice, and any specific legal and compliance issues that affect ASC. Undertake investigations as required under ASC policies and relevant legislation. In addition to the above responsibilities, successful candidates for Senior Legal Counsel roles will be expected to: Provide ASC’s senior management with practical, accurate and timely counsel on a variety of legal topics and emerging risks Lead negotiations and matter management of high value/high risk commercial agreements and other legal matters from a legal perspective, including draft, review and provide expert legal advice on a broad range of commercial contracts and dealings. Supervise, train, develop and mentor junior members of the ASC Legal team Prepare and update precedents and templates, as well as policies and procedures, and deliver training on legal topics Initiate and lead the implementation of strategic legal, compliance and business development initiatives About You Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (or equivalent) and be admitted to practice law in South Australia Excellent verbal communication and written communication skills Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness Ability to work autonomously, influence and engage with multiple stakeholders across the business A minimum of 3 years’ post admission experience for Legal Counsel roles and a minimum of 5 years’ for Senior Legal Counsel roles (preferably in private practice or some in-house legal experience) Eligibility These roles require a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for these roles are dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
