This role is key in supporting the legal frameworks essential for the rapid growth and expansion of renewable energy projects. The Legal Counsel – Property & Planning role offers the opportunity to advise on critical property and planning matters related to renewable energy asset development. The successful candidate will provide legal guidance on land acquisition, leases, easements, and related planning regulations, ensuring the company’s compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including landowners, regulators, and planning authorities, to facilitate the development of renewable energy projects across Australia. Key Responsibilities Advise on all legal aspects of land acquisition, leasing, and planning processes for renewable energy assets. Negotiate land agreements, leases, easements, and related property contracts to ensure legal compliance and favourable terms. Liaise with planning authorities, regulators, and external legal counsel to support project approvals and compliance. Provide legal support for the development, construction, and operational phases of renewable energy projects. Ensure the company’s renewable energy projects comply with environmental regulations and planning laws. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including procurement agreements, EPC contracts, and project finance documents. Monitor relevant legal developments in property, planning, and renewable energy laws, advising on potential impacts. Collaborate with internal teams, including project managers, engineers, and finance professionals, to support project delivery. Manage external legal panel firms when necessary to handle complex legal matters or disputes. Other duties as required. Qualifications 3-4 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in property or planning law, preferably within the renewable energy sector. Proven experience with land acquisition, planning approvals, and property-related contracts in Australia. Strong understanding of environmental and planning laws relevant to renewable energy projects. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to manage complex legal negotiations. Ability to work autonomously and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
