Representing more than 20,200 members the LIV's purpose is to foster the rule of law and to promote improvements and developments in the law as it affects the public of Victoria. The LIV is a non-profit organisation dedicated to its members and the development, maintenance and the sustenance of the law for the benefit of the community. Position Overview: The Legal Policy Manager and Contracts Lawyer role is one of two managerial roles within the Law Institute of Victoria’s ( LIV ) Legal Policy Team. The Legal Policy Manager and Contracts Lawyer works together with the Manager – Policy and Research, reports to the Head of Legal Policy, and is part of a dynamic team of 17 legal professionals. The Legal Policy Team is made up of, in addition to the Head of Legal Policy and the two Legal Policy Managers, several Lawyers and Policy Officers and Paralegals who manage the LIV’s Practice Sections, which are: Administrative Law and Human Rights (ALHR); Commercial, Costs, and Litigation Lawyers; Disability and Elder Health Law (DEHL); Family Law; Criminal Law; Property and Environmental Law (PELS); and Technology and Innovation (TIS). In addition, the Legal Policy Manager and Contracts Lawyer, will also support the work of the in-house Counsel team at the LIV and will assist with the review of internal LIV contracts and providing internal legal advice to senior management, as well as the preparation and review of contracts (and the LIV Contracts Register). Key Responsibilities Include: Reviewing and approving legal policy and law reform written deliverables, including responsive submissions and proactive advocacy Assisting, where required, in the generation of legal policy and law reform written deliverables by the Legal Policy Lawyers and Policy Officers; Delivering legal policy and law reform written deliverables that are complex, and/or of strategic significance to the LIV, and/or which span Legal Policy Practice Sections; Providing guidance, support, and leadership to the Legal Policy Lawyers and Policy Officers Delivering training to Legal Policy Lawyers and Policy Officers and Paralegals. Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders on internal and external legal issues Prepare, negotiate, manage, correspond with external parties and provide legal advice to internal stakeholders in relation to legal agreements that minimises risks and maximises legal rights for the LIV, while meeting the LIV’s overall business objectives, strategic direction and values. Prior experience in policy, ideally with project management experience is preferred.
