Job Overview: The Principal Flow Assurance Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex Flow Assurance (Eng)-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Flow Assurance Engineer may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Flow Assurance (Eng). As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Flow Assurance (Eng) as well as broad knowledge of the Flow Assurance (Eng) discipline within the Engineering function. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: - Perform conceptual/pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards - Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and nonstandard situations - Perform a leading Flow Assurance role (Lead Flow Assurance Engineer) as required for a project - Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations/simulations and analyses including design reports and procedures - Manage own (and associated engineers when acting as Lead Engineer) time to meet objectives and (as Lead Engineer) forecast and plan resource requirements - Clearly communicate and explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view - Supervise and guide junior leveled engineers' work and QA/QC their models, methodologies, simulation results, conclusions, and reports - When acting as Lead Engineer, in addition: - Direct small or medium Flow Assurance Engineering team as a Lead Engineer - Understand the SOW of the task in detail on the requirements, battery limits, budget, and schedule - Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule, and all manpower resources - Ensure the work execution in accordance with standards, MDR, and project-specific procedures and to a high professional standard; and manage to complete the SOW within the planned schedule and budget - Monitor work progress closely and maintain responsibility for progress and productivity; ensure deliverables meeting schedule; and identify any required corrective action if required - Ensure the quality of work meeting (or exceeding) client expectations - Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified Manage interfaces with the client, 3rd parties, and other disciplines; prioritize/optimize deliverable schedule ensuring other disciplines' work progress - Create (or authorize) and respond/answer Technical Queries (TQs) and Interface Queries (IQs) - Identify any deviations from the agreed SOW, which may cause extra work and/or delay on the project schedule, for any extra and/or new scopes, new or value addition ideas, and new requests from the client (or other parties or other disciplines) and report to the project management team immediately; and prepare proposals for the deviations with VORs - Complete and update discipline progress reports and participate in project meetings - Act as project representative for the Discipline during meetings with the Project Team, Customer discipline lead, and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc. - Become fully familiar with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues Interpret contractual requirements as they relate to engineering execution - Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, including providing any necessary supporting documentation and estimates Provide similar support for Variation Orders (VOs) - Interface/work with Client to fully understand their requirements and expectations on Flow Assurance; Interface with other parties (3rd parties) to understand their work schedule for the information will be required from Flow Assurance (FA) and the available information required by FA - Interface with all other disciplines to fully understand their requirements for FA and optimize the corresponding schedule, especially for the specific requirements if there are any - Maintain close coordination with other engineering disciplines, Planning, and Project Management Team, as required - Keep the Discipline Manager and Project Management Team apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and manpower related - Assist in providing inputs for actual, planning, and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity - Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to the Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager - Prepare estimates for bid proposals, including technical query reviews, activity identification, execution statements, workhour estimates, and resources requirements, identifying software requirements and any other project-specific requirements - Clarify work scope; raise technical queries to obtain missing information - Prepare, review, and (as Lead Engineer) approve Discipline engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications - Participate in finalizing deliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications and functional integrity - Review project schedule in relation to project milestones, and engineering scope - Attend project kickoff and review meetings, engineering meetings, and vendor meetings as required - Provide technical direction, supervise and review less experienced engineers' work; Guide them on MDR and Discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, design calculations, software, modeling, technical bid evaluations, technical queries, etc. - Provide necessary design inputs to other disciplines to enable them in proceeding with their deliverables - Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve 3rd parties and subcontractor submittals, checking and ensuring the quality of work meeting MDR requirements and in compliance with project specifications, and providing comments as necessary - Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve design verification through single-discipline check/ inter­ discipline check (IDC) - Present issues and problems to Customers in a timely manner and assist the Lead Engineer in negotiating resolution in accordance with project and company requirements - Perform (as required) Technical Quality Audit reviews in accordance with MDR Global Procedures - Assist Lead Engineer with responses to Customer and other agencies (such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.) on their review and approval - Capture lessons learned and enter into MDR's Lessons Learned system - Monitor costs of own work processes - Assist in the maintenance of departmental technical guidelines - Participate in the development and maintenance of Global Procedures, Software, and Standards - May participate in standards development committees or task groups - Develop communication and presentation skills (e.g., write technical papers, participate in conferences and/or seminars, present design solutions, etc.) - Identify and provide training to staff in specific techniques and proprietary software - Provide information on employee performance to the Discipline Manager - Assist the Discipline manager in interviewing job applicants - Support the activities for installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning purposes, and any requirements for technical support - Participate in HAZOP meetings, as necessary - When acting as Lead Engineer, in addition: - Identify project staff needs based on knowledge of individual engineer's skill sets and provide requests to the Discipline manager - Act as project-based Discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Customer counterparts - Ensure substantive communications are documented - Prepare bids and project Discipline engineering budget and execution plans, updating as required - Plan, organize, and assign tasks, responsibilities, and workhour budgets to the discipline team, and verify tasks are completed within budgets - Plan Discipline Level 4 detail deliverable schedule/ register compliant with the overall execution plan - Prepare working forecasts identifying change management plans, corrective action, and real-time schedule - Provide Discipline inputs for actual, planning, and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity - Alert the project team of any deviation from the scope or a need for a change order - Monitor progress measurement results and take corrective action as necessary to improve Discipline performance, including performance at interfaces with others - Coordinate with other Discipline Lead Engineers and Designers to ensure timely receipt of necessary design inputs - Lead the Discipline team during project audits (internal, Customer, and third-party technical audits) and Design Reviews - Review comments from Customers and other agencies on documents produced by the team, and resolve and give guidance on their update and incorporation - Assist the Discipline manager in the preparation of quarterly forecasts and manpower planning - Assist the Discipline manager and Project Engineering Manager or Project Manager in the Performance Evaluation of project team members - Check and approve discipline detailed engineering documents/deliverables - Participate in project meetings and update discipline progress on a regular basis - Organize (or co-organize) regular FA progress meetings with Clients and related parties and generate/review/update the MOM of the meeting for Client review and approval - Participate in project design review and be responsible for presenting discipline work and progress - Uphold the Company's Vision, Mission and Values Statement and Corporate Goals; As FA Lead Engineer: Project Engineering Manager or Project Manager Functional: Local Flow Assurance Team Lead or Local Supervising Department Manager Liaise with: All Engineering disciplines, Safety Department, Project Management Team, Document Control, Project Planner, Project Cost Controller, QC and Certification Group, Procurement Group, Subcontractors, Vendors, and Customers Supervises: Senior Flow Assurance Engineers, Flow Assurance Engineers and Associated Engineers Essential Qualifications & Education: - Degree and above in Engineering - 15-20 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing pre-FEED, FEED, and detail design on Flow Assurance; CFD experience a plus - Expertise in reservoir fluid characteristics knowledge and analysis and related software, specifically Multiflash and PVTsim - Rich experience with Flow Assurance issues and their mitigation strategies - Expertise in oil and gas production systems (offshore/subsea and onshore) and oil/gas transmission, water/gas/chemical injection systems modeling and simulations - Expertise in Flow Assurance engineering software including multiphase and single-phase steady state and transient flow assurance simulation software and their applications: - PIPEsim and Maximus - OLGA and LeadFlow - PIPENET and SPS - Other FA software - Familiar with content and application of Flow Assurance-related standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable - Expertise in flow assurance analysis techniques and methods - Expertise in black oil, wet gas, and single-phase (Gas and oil export, WI, GL, and chemical injection) systems - Detailed knowledge of system design, operating philosophy, and techniques Strong experience in system operability analysis and system operating strategies - Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills - Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicable - Very good organizer, motivator, and supervisor - Able to solve problems without assistance - Keen on improving the effectiveness of the work - HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious - Fluent in the English language - Understanding and supporting company goals and work processes - Participate in MDR Global Flow Assurance Team activities and Support McDermott CoP-Flow Assurance Engineering monthly technical presentations - Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to: - The reassignment to other McDermott offices - The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays - The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable - The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications LI-LJ1 Our ingenuity fuels daily life.
