Are you a qualified Disability Support Worker who has an interest in working within the Forensic Care sector? About the Role: We are a committed team, dedicated to providing tailored support, care and guidance to NDIS participants who are currently under Forensic Treatment Authority Orders. Our participants present with diverse mental health needs – those experiencing discrimination and/or excluded from the simple things that others take for granted. Our participants are often those navigating complex mental health challenges such as those associated with having an intellectual impairment, ASD, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia, coupled with self-harming and complex behaviours such as verbal and physical aggression. Responsibilities: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate team to support very complex participants, living in the Wacol area. As a Forensic Support Worker, you will be providing direct supports in a team environment to assist our clients to safely access the community, or receive direct care within the specialised forensic care facility based at Wacol .The support provided involves helping adults who have a disability and/or an offending background to develop individual independence, confidence and facilitation of meaningful engagement in activities and opportunities which will improve their quality of life, reduce the risk of reoffending and increase opportunities for community reintegration. What you'll be doing: • Provide support to participants (who may have dual disabilities & challenging behaviours) in a community setting, as well as for the daily needs and personal care within a SIL environment • Meet the individual needs according to an established behavioural support plan, including the ethical use of restrictive practices • Support Participants in navigating the justice system where necessary • Developing professional relationships with individual, their care team and others in the community • Providing accurate and timely case notes so that others can provide a consistent experience for participants • Provide support to assist participants to work towards their individual goals • Promote participant independence with a trusted mental health and disability service provider • Promote the safety and well-being of the individual at all times • Opportunity for on-the-job training and career progression within an established NDIS registered provider, including the possibility of becoming a Senior Support Worker (for the right candidate/s) • Consistent shifts that offer stability and the chance to have a real impact Qualifications and Skills: • Minimum of a Certificate IV in Individual Disability or similar (although a Diploma, Bachelor degree or study towards any of these would be preferred) • Experience with very challenging behaviours, and Complex Mental Health needs • Understanding of ethical restrictive practices • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to stay calm under stress • First Aid and CPR certification • Paid Yellow Card and Blue Card, Drivers’ License – Road Worthy Registered Vehicle Personal Attributes: • Empathetic, patient, and committed to improving life quality for individuals with disabilities • Resilient, adaptable, and excellent at problem-solving • Team-oriented but able to work independently when required • Respectful and culturally sensitive to providing care to all participants Why You’ll Love Working at Blue Iris Support Services: • Employee Assistance Program • Flexible rostering • A challenging and rewarding career supporting participants to reach their goals • A welcoming environment • Opportunities to progress from casual to permanent Blue Iris Support Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes applicants who have an indigenous and/or culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background.
