Under a Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA), Austal is on the path to become the Commonwealth’s sovereign "Strategic Shipbuilder" within the Henderson Precinct, Western Australia. The SSA will initially deliver Medium and Heavy Landing Craft for the Australian Army as part of a decades of continuous shipbuilding for the Commonwealth. About the Opportunity As a member of the Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) team the incumbent will provide Maintenance Engineering and technical writing support to Defence Acquisition programs. The Maintenance Engineer analyses equipment technical documentation, function and performance requirements to derive maintenance plans that preserve asset integrity and fulfil the designated tasks. You will collaborate with other members of the ILS team to: Identify the relevant maintenance tasks considering the system/equipment functional requirements, mission profiles and task characteristics through analysis such as Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and/or Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM). Analyse maintenance resource packages by undertaking resource evaluations and trade-offs to determine the optimum location, personnel, and resource requirements to perform each task, and applying engineering judgement to modify tasks to enhance vessel availability and reduce life-cycle costs. Document maintenance procedures, complying with all relevant safety standards, and based on authorised technical data such as to be clear and unambiguous for maintainers to follow. Conduct maintenance investigations to identify deficiencies in existing maintenance and/or to optimise asset reliability and maintainability.
