The Opportunity We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Principal Process Engineer to join us in on our Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, or Sydney offices on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the Team Lead Standards and Assurance, the Principal Process Engineer ensures technical risk management, capability development, and compliance with APA, Australian, and international standards. They conduct assurance activities, implement continuous improvement, and support the integration of discipline standards into APA assets and practices. Additionally, the Principal Engineer serves as the Technical Authority for the Process Engineering and Process Safety discipline. Key Responsibilities Lead process safety initiatives, apply risk management methodologies (e.g., AS ISO 31000), and ensure compliance with Safety in Design, SFAIRP, and WHS/OHS regulations Manage and apply APA's internal standards, along with discipline standards and codes (e.g., AS, ASME, API, DNV), ensuring compliance with APA's engineering, quality, and regulatory systems, including ISO 9001, 14001, and 55001 Maintain expertise in equipment interactions and process improvements Coach and mentor a team of process engineers with process safety Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (vendors, regulators) to maintain quality, ensure compliance, and support special projects Your background Tertiary qualifications in Chemical Engineering or related field (mandatory) Chartered or Registered Professional Engineer Demonstrated experience in the design engineering related experience within the hydrocarbon industry, specifically in the gas transmission pipelines and working knowledge of future fuels such as H2 and CO2 would be preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performance engineering teams, fostering technical excellence and professional growth Understand process plant layouts, piping, pipeline design, complex engineering calculations, and use industry software like HYSYS for simulations; interpret schematics, PFDs, P&IDs, and instrumentation drawings Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders including internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies, influencing decision-making processes and driving consensus Strong command of the English language in both verbal and written form.
