This role focuses on expanding modelling and hardware testing capabilities for large-scale energy storage, solar, and electric charging systems in Australia. The successful candidate will collaborate with utilities, independent power providers, and system operators in technical power systems discussions, shaping system design to optimise performance on the grid. You will be responsible for developing detailed models of the technology and control strategies operating on the grid, including forming microgrids of various sizes. This is a dynamic and multi-disciplinary role, combining power systems engineering, controls, firmware, and grid operations. What You’ll Do Act as the technical representative for power flow, short circuit, and dynamic modelling discussions with customers and stakeholders Increase in-house capabilities to model the company’s energy storage products in power systems analysis software, including applications for microgrids and larger grid integration Collaborate with product design and firmware/software teams to ensure models align with technology roadmaps Feed power systems requirements into product specifications, influencing system architecture and design Create models to represent energy systems in power flow and dynamic modelling tools for utility and C&I projects Provide technical support in discussions with utilities, IPPs, and system operators to align system design with grid requirements Contribute to control theory design , including the implementation of PID control for system optimisation Develop and maintain dynamic models of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and associated technologies for various project sizes and grid environments Support interconnection studies , protection coordination, and other engineering assessments Work with cross-functional teams , including engineering, business development, and deployment teams, to integrate technology and maximise performance on the grid Stay updated on emerging trends in energy storage, grid integration, and control strategies, and apply these to current projects What You’ll Bring Expert-level knowledge in at least three power system modelling tools such as PSCAD, PSS\E, PSLF, DIgSILENT, or PowerWorld Experience in modelling and simulation of inverter-based generation systems Solid expertise in conducting interconnection and engineering studies Strong knowledge of control theory , with the ability to implement and optimise PID control Degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus or equivalent industry experience Ability to work cross-functionally , liaising with customers, engineering teams, business development, and deployment personnel Experience with HIL tools (such as RTDS, Typhoon, OPAL-RT) is highly regarded Excellent communication skills , with the ability to clearly articulate power systems analyses and grid-related discussions Relevant Australian working rights and experience in the Australian energy market (NEM/WEM) Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary ranging from $194,000 to $230,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonuses Flexible work arrangements including remote work options Opportunities for professional development and career progression within the rapidly growing energy storage and renewable sector Employee perks such as wellness programs, mental health support, and parental leave Exclusive access to employee discounts for energy solutions and other partner offerings Submit a professional cover letter detailing your relevant skills, knowledge, and experience along with a current CV.
