The Position The Literacy Development Coordinator works closely with teachers to provide opportunities for students to develop the literacy skills needed to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating within and beyond school. While much of the explicit teaching of literacy occurs in the discipline of English, literacy skills are enhanced through other disciplines when students engage in a range of learning activities with significant literacy demands. The Literacy Development Coordinator will ensure that all discipline areas encompass the ability to use and modify language for different purposes in a range of contexts. Our Classroom Teachers grow and develop student learning by enhancing their own professional and personal development in the three teaching domains of Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement (aitsl.edu.au). Self-directed and capable, you are passionate about learning and can competently collaborate and build partnerships with others to ensure successful delivery of dynamic programs for our students. You possess a restless need to explore and learn, seeking out innovative practices and new experiences, and actively encourage the same of others. ABOUT YOU Passionate about literacy, you will have a strong drive to create positive opportunities for students. Partnering with teaching staff and other positions of leadership, you will develop and implement a College wide approach to improving literacy in all disciplines and subject areas. Key Selection Criteria Essential: Tertiary qualifications in Education with evidence of continuous formal learning in a relevant field. Experience leading the broad advancement of literacy in a secondary school setting. Accreditation to Teach RE or Lead in a Catholic School, working towards attainment or preparedness to commence working towards attainment. Ability to create and deliver targeted action plans to achieve outcomes. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead others. Forward thinking and innovative. Understanding of and commitment to positive education practices. Desirable: Experience managing projects and resources. Experience in a faith-based setting, and capacity to positively advance the College’s mission and Mercy values. This position requires VIT registration. The successful candidate will have relevant background checks conducted by the College.
