Our client and their requirements : Our client is one of most culturally diverse councils in not only NSW but in Australia The role: An initial 6 month contract (with possible extension) To provide legal services in compliance matters and transactional (commercial contract) matters, with a secondary role in contract management and dispute resolution. You will work most closely with the Procurement and Governance divisions and will frequently liaise directly with external stakeholders Your main duties & responsibilities will include: Facilitate efficiency and quality in decision-making by ensuring Council staff are properly informed of their legal obligations Ensure legal advice and services are used efficiently and to their best effect. Demonstrate and apply a sophisticated understanding of Council's strategic commercial objectives, Demonstrate a pragmatic approach to providing legal guidance to Council staff Review and amend Council policy documents Pursue mutually beneficial outcomes between Council and external stakeholders. Work collaboratively with colleagues of various specialisations to pursue their desired outcomes. Training of other team members Prepare and maintain a register of legal precedents What you will need to succeed includes : Be admitted as a lawyer in the state of New South Wales holding a current New South Wales practising certificate or being entitled to hold a New South Wales practising certificate authorising the holder to practice as a solicitor; Minimum of two (2) years of experience in legal practice in a transactional or legal compliance role; Be able to negotiate effectively, with excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Demonstrate flexibility in thinking and responding to organisational change. Be capable of explaining complex legal issues and concepts in plain English. About You: Achievement of a distinction average (GPA or WAM) or higher in the applicant's law degree (Desired) Disciplined with remarkable organisational skills to meet targets and purpose. Effective and efficient use of time to ensure a productive workflow.
