Horizon is Skedulo’s frontend framework for building web user interfaces that are composable, customizable and extensible. Our teams and customers rely on the Horizon framework to build and extend Skedulo’s interactive scheduling user interfaces. As a Senior Staff Engineer within the Horizon squad, you play a pivotal role in defining and executing the technical direction of the framework. You are actively engaged in hands-on engineering responsibilities within your team, consistently contributing to the successful delivery of features from your product roadmap. In this capacity, you provide valuable guidance, direction, and assistance to team members within your team. In this role you are accountable for technical leadership and delivery with your own team, and your guidance and expertise is sought after and extends across the broader engineering organisation. You are expected to successfully anticipate and plan for technical problems. You are highly knowledgeable in major parts of your team’s technology stack and are the technical owner of significant areas of our code base. You have a sustained track record of creating meaningful improvements in our applications around stability and performance. As a Senior Staff Engineer you have a strong ability to influence without requiring direct reporting authority. You facilitate cross team work when required and are influential beyond your functional area. You are capable of driving groups of disparate interests to decisions, and clearly communicating and seeing those decisions through to impact. RESPONSIBILITIES Team (Daily Ongoing Duties) Writing and reviewing code from the sprint backlog inline with team best practices Assisting in driving team sprint execution to ensure timelines are met without compromising on quality. Coaching and mentoring other engineers in engineering best practices You may be required to participate in your team’s on-call rotation as part of supporting the services your team owns. Technical Duties Accountable for technical leadership and delivery within your own team Provide effective input to technical discussions / decisions that impact the company’s ability to deliver quality engineering solutions. Drive observability work across your team based on Product Development's (PD) observability approach. Lead incident response, recovery, review and remediation for your team Communication Duties Communicate within your team and across the broader engineering organisation in an effective, clear, concise manner in both written and verbal form on technical and non technical subjects. Consistently work across your team to help resolve blockers, and complete work tasks. Leadership Duties Set short to medium-term strategic technical direction for your area of remit, able to look ahead 6-12 months and identify the areas of greatest need and create plans to improve them. Lead your team in strategic efforts, influencing decisions to achieve alignment on major goals. Train, coach and mentor other PD engineers Model Skedulo and PD values MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must have at least 8 years commercial experience as an engineer, with solid hands-on experience in at least some areas of our technology stack (and an appetite to learn): Typescript / React / GRPC / NodeJS / Kotlin Must have at least 5 years working with unit and integration testing patterns Must have at least 3 years experience in software design and architecture Must have experience working with agile development methodologies PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Preferred candidates will have experience in designing and building distributed architectures that support modern web applications. Preferred candidates will have experience with cloud hosting (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud). Preferred candidates will have prior experience working with GraphQL. Preferred candidates will have a team player mentality, will be quick on their feet, agile, and aren't afraid to speak up and voice their opinion.
