As a Power Systems Engineer, you will work closely with various stakeholders, including network service providers, market operators, and regulatory bodies, to design and implement solutions that address the challenges of integrating renewable energy sources, managing grid stability, and ensuring the secure operation of the electricity network. Key Responsibilities Conduct advanced power systems analysis, including load flow studies, fault level calculations, stability assessments, and dynamic simulations. Develop and implement strategies for the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements. Provide technical advice and support to the network planning and operations teams on issues related to grid stability, voltage control, and system reliability. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement grid connection solutions for new generation and storage projects. Monitor and analyse grid performance, identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to enhance system security. Lead the development of engineering models and tools to support power system analysis and decision-making processes. Contribute to the development of grid codes, standards, and guidelines, ensuring they reflect the latest technological advancements and industry best practices. Support the planning and execution of network augmentation projects, including the assessment of technical options and cost-benefit analyses. Engage with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and other stakeholders to represent the organisation’s interests and advocate for favourable outcomes in regulatory processes. Provide expert input into the design and operation of market mechanisms that support the efficient and secure operation of the electricity grid. Lead technical investigations into grid disturbances, providing detailed analysis and recommendations for corrective actions. Support the development and implementation of innovative solutions for demand management, grid flexibility, and energy storage integration. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in power systems engineering, contributing to the organisation’s research and development initiatives. Participate in industry forums, working groups, and technical committees to influence the direction of the energy sector and promote the organisation’s objectives. Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is highly desirable. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on grid stability, network planning, or renewable energy integration. Strong analytical skills, with experience in conducting load flow studies, stability assessments, and dynamic simulations using industry-standard tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory). In-depth knowledge of Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) rules, grid codes, and regulatory frameworks. Experience in designing and implementing grid connection solutions for large-scale generation and storage projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. High level of attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering work.
