The Opportunity: The Business Development Manager will play a critical role in driving growth and expanding our market presence within the civil infrastructure sector. This position is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong client relationships, and developing strategic partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the engineering consultancy industry, with a focus on public works, water utility, and transport projects. This role will work closely and collaboratively with the sector leads within the business/region to successfully grow the business. The role will work with the National Clients and Growth Lead to ensure a consistent and leveraged approach across the business. Key Responsibilities: Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitors within relevant sectors. Analyze market data to develop strategies for pursuit positioning and tendering, market entry/expansion, and competitive positioning. Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, government agencies, and stakeholders in relevant sectors, with support of existing sector Leads. Act as a point of contact for clients, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction. Oversee the client relationship management framework in collaboration with Sector Leads to ensure consistency in a client approach across the business. Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, industry events, and market research. Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and proposals to key clients about Tonkin’s capability in the market. Proposal Management: Lead the preparation and submission of proposals, including RFPs, RFQs, and tenders (in partnership with Tonkin’s Proposal Coordinator). Coordinate with Sector Leads and the delivery teams to ensure proposals are accurate, competitive, and aligned with client expectations. Partnership Development: Identify and establish strategic partnerships with other firms, contractors, and industry organizations. Negotiate and manage partnership agreements to enhance service offerings and market reach. Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in client management and/or business development within the engineering consultancy industry, particularly within the civil infrastructure sectors. Proven track record of successful business development and client relationship management. Strong understanding of the civil infrastructure markets in the region. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software. Desired Attributes: Strong industry presence and personal connections to clients and partners will be seen favorably.
