As an IT Systems Engineer you will work with a talented team of engineers and vendors to support and maintain our on-premises and cloud IT infrastructure. Within the Core Platforms team within the Business Technology department, you’ll work with stakeholders both within the department and across the business on a wide range of projects requiring new or changed IT infrastructure. With a consistent focus on service improvement, you’ll work to ensure our essential IT infrastructure is well maintained and secured according to business needs. Your role as an Engineer IT Systems will involve: Respond to and resolve complex incidents and service requests related to hybrid infrastructure (on-premise VMware ESXi, Azure Cloud, and Windows/Linux servers) Actively participate in problem management, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions across all supported platforms Perform regular maintenance, patching, and updates for Windows Server environments, IIS, SQL Server, and COTS applications Ensure system configurations align with architecture guidelines set by the Lead Systems Engineer and Planning and Architecture Team for VMware ESXi, Azure environments, and Windows/Linux servers Serve as a subject-matter expert in IT projects, particularly those involving hybrid cloud integration, migration, and Windows/Linux server management Engage in technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders, translating complex concepts into understandable terms Develop and implement automated processes using Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, PowerShell scripting, and other relevant tools for efficient infrastructure and application management Optimise system performance, capacity, reliability, and scalability across on-premise, cloud platforms, and server environments Provide expertise in managing: Active Directory (on-premise) and Azure Active Directory Office 365 services Microsoft Intune for device management Compute and storage resources (VMware ESXi, Azure, and physical servers) LAN/WAN networking in hybrid environments Windows Server environments, including IIS and SQL Server COTS applications installed on Windows servers Basic Linux OS management and troubleshooting Veeam Backup and Restore Basic utilisation of Palo Alto firewalls to troubleshoot connectivity Basic understanding of MacOS MDM Contribute to and assist with maintaining up-to-date documentation for policies, processes, and technical configurations for all supported systems Proactively identify and report potential information security issues or risks in the hybrid environment and server infrastructure. Understand and be ready to assist in execution of organisational cyber security incident response plans and playbooks for on-premise, cloud systems, and server environments Maintain relevant certifications and stay current with industry trends and best practices Participate in capacity planning and cost optimisation activities covering VMware ESXi, Azure resources, and physical server infrastructure Assist in designing and implementing disaster recovery and business continuity solutions leveraging on-premise, cloud technologies, and server replication/failover strategies Ensure compliance with organisational safety and health policies, as well as data protection regulations across all managed systems Other duties as required, adapting to evolving technological landscapes and organisational needs Experience: Demonstrated experience in a similar role Experience in management and/or consultation and design of IT Infrastructure, O365, M365, and Azure solutions Experience in management of end-user computing environments and management systems such as SCCM and Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) Experience in management of AD, AAD & Group Policy Management Scripting ability (PowerShell, Batch, etc.) Experience in writing technical policy documents and systems documentation Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline or equivalent experience Microsoft certification in the areas of Office 365 and Azure are highly desirable It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit.
