Desert Funerals is a new funeral directing provider based in Alice Springs, whose mission is to provide a well-managed, culturally appropriate and financially accessible funeral service to all people across Central Australia. It has been created by two key stakeholder organisations, Centrecorp Aboriginal Investment Corporation (Centrecorp) and Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation (Ngurratjuta), who will provide ongoing financial management and governance oversight to the venture. Desert Funerals is now looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking and experienced transfer driver and general all-rounder to support the Funeral Operations Manager and Funeral Director. Key Duties: The role of the Transfer Driver/Allrounder will be to provide general support to the funeral service as follows: Transfer of deceased persons, within Alice Springs, as well as to and from remote communities. This includes entering details into the mortuary register. Assist with cleaning and maintaining the facility, vehicles and equipment to ensure neat and professional presentation of Desert Funerals’ assets at all times. Grounds maintenance, including mowing and waste management. Assisting with Mortuary requirements, in preparation of the deceased. Assisting with fit out and preparation of coffins. Assisting with funerals at the cemetery. Collection of mail and supplies as required. May assist with additional tasks to allow the smooth running of Desert Funerals operations. Report any problems experienced with the vehicles in a timely manner. Assist with handing out funeral programs. Required Skills & Experience: In addition to having funeral industry experience, the ideal applicant will possess: An awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture. Strong communication skills and customer service skills. Community mindedness with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with diversity of clients, visitors and stakeholders. Aware of Workplace Health and Safety Policy and procedures, including PPE practices. Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining confidentiality at all times. A full driver’s licence. Willingness to undertake remote travel and travel out of business hours. Hours: Initially, this role will be part time, at 30 hours per week to be undertaken during business hours of Monday to Friday (8.00am to 5pm) or as otherwise as approved by the Funeral Operations Manager. Some afterhours and weekend travel may be required subject to timing of funerals. What we offer: A competitive salary.
