About The Role: We are seeking an experienced construction industry experienced Contracts/Commercial (project contracts) incumbent to join our team. The Contracts task will be to manage and control the effective execution of contracts for the company’s construction and fabrication projects to ensure commercial objectives are achieved. They will take part in project contract negations prior to award or throughout the life of projects, including the drafting of contracts, or proposed contract revisions as may be needed from time to time. Oversee, prepare, and submit Progress Claims, Delay Claims, Contract Variations, and Dispute Notices. Monitor project execution for contractual compliance and risks and consult with key operational personnel to achieve commercial and contractual objectives. Lead Dispute Resolution processes with clients as necessary to achieve commercial and contractual objectives. The position will be primarily based at Sun Engineering's in Carole Park, Ipswich, QLD, and occationaly may need to travel and work on various project sites from time to time. Travel and working away for this role is expected to be infrequent, and where necessary will usually only be for short periods of time. The successful applicant will have: At least 3 years Contract Management experience specifically in the construction industry. Experience in the delivery of SMP construction projects both commercially and operationally over the entirety of project lifecycles. Substantial experience in negotiating and/or drafting bespoke construction contracts and subcontracts on a case-by-case basis including risk identification and closing gaps between technical and contractual parts of contracts. Substantial experience in construction claims (including key focus on variation, EOT and delay and disruption claims), Security of Payment adjudications and dispute resolution. Very high attention to detail and accuracy. Structured working philosophy. Strong numeracy, cost control and cost management skills. Ability to identify and articulate key contractual risks or arguments and personally draft effective correspondence and construction claims to suit the required audience. Ability to identify suitable commercial strategies on a project-by-project basis and communicate these effectively to the project teams for implementation and effectively monitor the performance of such strategies. A demonstrable understanding of contract law and Security of Payments legislation. Very strong interpersonal and motivational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organisation. Familiarity with construction work and contracts in PNG is highly desirable but not essential. Education: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, commerce or contract Law or similar qualifications are preferable, however a demonstrable history in similar roles will have similar weight. Package on offer We have a broad salary range on offer for this position and are prepared to negotiate up to our higher end for the right candidate, keeping in mind this is a Full-Time, Permanent position. On the occasions the Contract/Commercial person may be requested to travel and work from a project site for periods of time, further monetary uplifts are considered for the location and duration on a case by case basis.
