About the role We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Senior Sales Assistant to oversee the online store and perform customer focused retail tasks that support the daily operation of the store and the missional objectives of The Salvation Army. Reporting to the Manager, this is a fixed-term (until August 2025), part-time (28.4 hours per week, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm - may include Saturdays) position based in Portland,Victoria. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the General Retail Award Level 4. You will successfully Oversee the online store, including valuations, uploading items, pricing, listing, postage & handling, updating listings and supervising online store volunteers. Provide exceptional customer service to all customers and provide appropriate assistance. Assist in the execution and coordination of all marketing and promotional activities at the store. Assist with the processing of all donations and ensure adequate amount of stock is on the shop floor at the correct price point. Maintain the appropriate visual standards of the store. Perform store open & close established procedures as required. Comply with secure cash handling and banking established procedures as required. Provide supervisory assistance to the Thrift Shop Manager. You will have Demonstrated customer service experience working in a retail environment with an ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Sound presentation and communication skills (both verbal and written) with an ability to interact with a variety of people. The ability to have difficult conversations with staff relating to accountability and performance. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively Some experience with online selling and photography desired Moderate level experience and competency with computers, devices, software and social media The physical ability to safely sit, stand, walk regularly and for long periods of time The physical ability to push, pull, lift, carry items up to 10 kilos in weight. The physical ability to climb ladders.
