About the Role Reporting to Hammad Memon, DSS Inception & Review Area Manager, this is a pivotal role within the DSS Strategic Engineering & Planning team. This is the time for Australia’s best Principal Engineers to join Melbourne Water. We are recruiting so YOU can make your mark and influence the whole of Melbourne Water catchment area. We have the mandate from the Victorian Planning Authority to prepare Melbourne’s drainage masterplan in the growth corridors of Melbourne’s greenfield areas. These include, and are not limited to, Croskell PSP (South East Region), Merrifield North PSP (North Region) and Melton East (West Region). YOU will prepare and shape Melbourne’s newest communities for the future and for generations to come. This is a technical civil engineering role where substantial experience in stormwater asset design, project management, civil and land development engineering knowledge is needed to succeed. Your civil engineering expertise will be relied on as you undertake general technical investigations, provide clear advice, make informed engineering decisions and exercise sound engineering judgement. This role will create, review and analyse flood models for the new communities. Our successful candidates will have substantial experience in stormwater design, with specialist knowledge of catchment modelling - which includes hydrological modelling, hydraulic design and stormwater quality modelling. Additionally, this role will manage specialist hydraulic, hydrologic, stormwater quality, and engineering design assessments, including investigations and functional designs conducted through Melbourne Water's Technical Panel. Your experience in project planning means that you can expertly take projects through from planning to delivery. You can identity project risks and have the integrity to flag these that may impact on safety, quality, finance and timelines. You will keep the project/s ‘honest’ whilst keeping Melbourne Water true to its mandate to deliver for these new communities. The role will require resilience, maintaining one’s focus and emotional intelligence We are in the planning and design stage and there is an abundance of complex data to analyse to ensure the new communities are flood resistant while also meeting appropriate social, environmental and cultural heritage standards. We are working in a dynamic environment where designs and design ideas will be tested and challenged. Drainage design plans will undergo a reiterative process before being confirmed. Therefore, you have the energy and mental agility to solve problems and be part of the ongoing conversations with stakeholders as we all journey towards building Melbourne’s new communities. YOU have a solid reputation for and demonstrated background of respectfully and successfully partnering with key people on projects and communicating with a variety of stakeholders including consultants, local councils, government representatives, planning authorities, developers and community members. YOU have solid stakeholder engagement and influencing skills and know how to apply these to form and maintain positive and professional working relationships with all stakeholders as you work towards delivery of objectives.
