In this Legal Advisor role, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on a wide range of regulatory and compliance issues within the energy sector. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that all operations comply with the relevant legal frameworks and regulatory requirements, while also advising on the development of new regulations and policies. Key Responsibilities: Advise on regulatory compliance and legal risks in energy market operations. Draft and review contracts, agreements, and regulatory submissions. Liaise with regulatory bodies and government agencies on policy developments. Provide legal support for market rules changes and implementation. Monitor changes in legislation and assess their impact on operations. Manage legal aspects of disputes, including arbitration and litigation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on market design and operational issues. Advise on corporate governance and compliance matters. Support in the negotiation of complex commercial agreements. Conduct legal research to support decision-making processes. Ensure compliance with national and international energy regulations. Lead training sessions on legal and regulatory compliance for internal teams. Assist in the development and implementation of compliance programs. Represent the organisation in legal proceedings and regulatory hearings. Provide strategic legal advice to senior management on risk management. Qualifications and Experience: Current practising certificate. Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in energy, regulatory, or commercial law. Strong understanding of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and associated regulatory frameworks. Proven experience in dealing with Australian energy regulatory bodies, such as the AER or AEMC. Expertise in contract law, particularly in drafting and negotiating energy contracts. Experience in dispute resolution, including litigation and arbitration in the energy sector. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
