As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in advising on a wide range of legal matters related to the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, providing strategic legal advice to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support the successful delivery of projects. This role requires a deep understanding of the legal frameworks governing the energy sector in Australia, as well as the ability to manage complex legal issues in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of renewable energy project development, including land acquisition, planning, and environmental approvals. Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, including EPC, O&M, and PPA agreements. Ensure compliance with Australian energy regulations, environmental laws, and other relevant legal frameworks. Advise on risk management strategies, including the identification and mitigation of legal risks associated with project development and operation. Manage legal due diligence processes for project acquisitions and financing. Liaise with external legal counsel, government authorities, and regulatory bodies on legal matters. Support the negotiation and execution of joint venture agreements and partnerships. Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and company policies. Oversee any potential dispute resolution processes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation, via external legal providers. Keep abreast of changes in legislation and regulatory requirements affecting the renewable energy sector. Contribute to the development and implementation of legal strategies that align with the company’s business objectives. Support the continuous improvement of legal processes and documentation within the organisation. Mentor and guide junior legal team members, fostering their professional growth. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor of Laws from a recognised Australian university. Admission to practice as a solicitor in Australia. Extensive experience in a senior legal role within the renewable energy or infrastructure sector. In-depth knowledge of Australian energy law, environmental regulations, and contract law. Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex contracts, particularly within the energy industry. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for renewable energy projects in Australia. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex legal issues. Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
