Based in Brisbane, Australia, we support innovation with a complete fire, smoke and acoustics research and development facility that adds assurance to businesses large and small. The Role: As a Testing and Assessment Engineer, you will assume primary responsibility for the laboratories technical operations by carrying out and overseeing product testing in addition to the development and provision of fire and smoke testing opinions and interpretations formalized through written assessments. An ideal candidate will possess tertiary engineering or science qualifications and/or experience in a NATA-accredited laboratory or appropriate fire industry experience. They will also possess a high level of attention to detail, self-management, and organizational skills. Key responsibilities will include: Conduct Fire, Smoke, and Acoustic testing in accordance with the laboratories accredited scope. Act in consort with Laboratory team to monitor and determine specimen performance. Prepare, review and issue reports based upon testing activity in accordance with management authorisation. Responsible for developing and establishing reporting fire and smoke test opinions and interpretations, formalised in written assessment reports. Ensure all testing equipment conforms with normative standards, is maintained to ensure consistent functionality, and is calibrated to construct confidence in the validity of test results. Train, supervise, and authorise laboratory technical staff in standard operating procedures and additional testing methodology. Comply with the company's Health and Safety policies and procedures. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your actions or omissions in the workplace. Any other reasonable task as directed. YOUR SKILLS Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Practical Science preferred, but not essential. Experience in a NATA accredited laboratory or appropriate fire industry experience preferred but not essential. Experience in dealing with test standards and knowledge of the Australian Building Code. Excellent attention to detail, self-management and organisational skills. A clear understanding of HSE principles and practice and commitment to safe working. High level of computer literacy particularly in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel) is essential.
