The team Legal Services, ASIC's centralised legal function, is responsible for a wide range of legal matters within ASIC including providing advice and oversight in respect of major cases being conducted by ASIC and providing advice on complex or novel regulatory matters and compliance with ASIC's statutory obligations. Within Legal Services, the Regulatory Advice team specialises in the provision of legal advice on complex or novel regulatory matters arising across the range of legislation administered by ASIC. The Regulatory Advice team works closely with all of ASIC's internal teams and may be called upon to advise the Commission and ASIC Executives on law reform and to draft or settle ASIC instruments, including legislative instruments. The Regulatory Advice team may also be involved in ASIC's regulatory or other litigation. The role As a Senior Lawyer you will be accountable for: Working collaboratively with other lawyers in Legal Services and ASIC to provide advice and guidance to ASIC teams on a broad range of complex or novel regulatory matters involving credit, corporations and financial services law. Using your significant experience to conduct detailed legal research and analysis across the range of legislation administered by ASIC. Advising on and drafting or settling legislative and other instruments made by ASIC. Providing subject matter expertise to both internal ASIC teams and external stakeholders and advise on compliance with ASIC's statutory obligations and policies. Preparing and, or, settling briefs to external legal services providers on legal issues and to Commission and Executive Directors on regulatory and legal issues. Contributing to ASIC's internal development of policy and as a key contributor to the law reform process. Representing ASIC in a legal capacity at internal and external meetings and committees. About you Legal qualifications to undertake this role, with significant post-admission experience. Significant experience in and exposure to the legislation administered by ASIC, including the Corporations Act. Experience as a senior lawyer, which may have been gained in a government department, government agency or a legal firm specialising in corporate or commercial law. Demonstrated ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels within an organisation. Experience in effectively presenting complex information to different target audiences through strong business writing and verbal communication skills.
